OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Deputy Engineering Discipline Manager is responsible for developing the Discipline in line
with business needs and ensuring technical competence for the execution of studies, tenders and projects within their technical area of responsibility.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

 

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

  • Coordinate Discipline services and resources to provide support to project and tendering teams.
  • Ensure compliance to standardized engineering policies, processes, and systems such that engineering across the Discipline is effective and quality driven.
  • Ensure that all design and detailing within the Discipline is in accordance with acknowledged industry Codes, Standards and Design Guides, Client Specifications and Scopes of Work.
  • Support the Discipline Manager in the development of Engineering Standards that capture our intellectual assets, technical and operational experience.
  • Support Discipline Manager in planning Discipline Engineering resources and monitor of progress and efficiency.
  • Build relationships with SCM leads.
  • Support the Engineers Competence Development Scheme (ECDS) & Graduate Engineer Development Scheme (GEDS).
  • Actively engage in Knowledge Management to enable the Discipline to communicate across the Group to share knowledge, best practice, and competence.
  • Actively engage in project risk assessment/mitigation processes.
  • Agree and monitor performance objectives with direct reports, identifying areas for improvement to the Discipline organization, tools, processes, and people.
  • Promote personal CPD (continuing professional development) through regular engagement with the professional engineering community.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and proactive working environment within the engineering function that encourages team working, a spirit of openness, honesty and integrity, thereby attracting, retaining and motivating a skilled workforce.
  • Contribute to the development of the resource for this function in conjunction with the Discipline Manager.

 

AUTHORITY/DIMENSIONS

  • Allocation of Engineering resources to studies, tenders, projects, and operations.
  • Operate within the Business Code of Conduct.
  • Operate within Subsea 7’s Management System, policies, and strategy.
  • Support standards and procedures for the Engineering Function.

  • Subcontractors and suppliers for engineering and procurement activity
  • Clients for Technical Reviews, and input into tenders and studies

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Ability to mentor and coach engineers and support their professional development.
  • Ability to lead an engineering team across multiple projects.
  • Sound communication skills, oral, written, and electronic.
  • Ability to prioritize own and others’ workload, manage time and change control accordingly and direct team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of program or budget.
  • Ability to manage interfaces with other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints.
  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Majority of the work is carried out in the local office site in Houston, Texas.
  • Requirement for occasional travel to Clients or other Company offices or sites.
  • Working hours according to local regulations and Company's policy.
