Subsea7 is recruiting for Survey Technicians to support our global subsea construction projects across the Offshore Energy sector including pipe & cable installation, fixed & floating wind installation and subsea asset inspection.

We are offering opportunities to both Survey Technicians with current experience in subsea construction as well as those from adjacent market segments such as geophysical, seismic, hydrographic or land survey that are looking for an opportunity to take their career into an exciting and challenging multi-discipline subsea engineering environment.

The role is for you if you are;

  • enthusiastic and have a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Currently working as a Survey Technician / Senior Survey Technician within subsea construction or in a similar role supporting geophysical, seismic or hydrographic survey

We are offering positions as Survey Technician or Senior Survey Technician depending on experience and will provide training and support to those with limited prior experience of subsea construction.

Role Overview

Joining Subsea7 as a Survey Technician you will be responsible for the interfacing, setup, operation and maintenance of the required survey equipment deployed on our vessels and ROVs for the particular work scope. You will support the Survey Party Chief and Online Surveyor to ensure equipment is operating as expected and that any faults are investigated and resolved in an efficient manner to maintain the uptime of the survey spread. You will support the Online Surveyor by taking control of the online navigation and data acquisition system periodically as required to cover break periods during shifts and on occasion you may fill the role of online surveyor on more basic operational spreads.

Career Journey

As a Survey Technician you will be required to complete your Competence Assessment for the role. You will continue to develop your experience, skills and competence across a variety of vessel types and in different types of operation; working towards achieving the competence for Senior Survey Technician. From there you may decide to work towards the role of Survey Party Chief where you would be responsible for offshore survey operations on the vessel, managing & leading the offshore survey team.

Your career within Subsea7 is only limited by your aspiration and desire and as a Survey Technician you may aspire to other offshore roles such as ROV Pilot Technician, Bridge Supervisor or alternatively consider a transition to an onshore role within Survey or another function within our global, multi-discipline organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge and capability in the operation of all survey sensors and software appropriate to the work carried out by Subsea7
  • Install, configure, interface and maintain all survey hardware, software and sensors, in compliance with manufacturer’s manuals, operating instructions and guidelines, and Subsea7 technical procedures and technical notes.
  • Ensure that all equipment and stores used by the Survey team are maintained in good condition, that there is sufficient equipment and consumable resources on-board and all equipment faults and damages are reported
  • Maintain survey equipment inventory and survey system schematic drawings/diagrams, ensuring current documents are submitted to Survey Helpdesk and/or Sharepoint in a timely manner
  • Communicate with the Survey Helpdesk for technical support, as and when required.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of Survey acquisition and navigation software to facilitate interfacing & testing of equipment and assist online Surveyor when required
  • Assist Online Surveyor with survey sensor and positioning system calibrations in accordance with standard Subsea7 procedures.
  • Comply with Company standard operating procedures, project-specific survey procedures and task plans as required
  • Operate in accordance with Subsea7 safety management system; actively participate in Toolbox Talks and Risk Assessments as required and contribute to the companies HSEQ reporting tools
  • Must actively comply with the Subsea 7 Competence Assurance & Assessment Program

Key Requirements:

  • A higher education qualification in an electrical or electronic related discipline or other relevant practical experience.
  • Prior experience as a Survey Technician or Senior Survey Technician in an offshore role is preferred
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of current offshore survey techniques in one or more of the following is preferred but not essential; pre-engineering survey, pre-lay survey, construction support, as-built survey, ROV survey operations, LBL operations, subsea metrology, jacket & monopile installation
  • The following certification would be desirable but not essential: CA-EBS; Shoulder Measurements; ILO Seamans Book, valid Offshore Survival and OGUK medical.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication skills with effective English language written and oral skills
  • Ability to maintain clear and concise logbooks and records.
  • Works well with others in a team environment
  • Good organisational skills and proactive approach to problem solving.
