JOB DESCRIPTION
  • The Methods Engineer is responsible for developing the methodologies necessary for site-specific operations. To this end, it issues calculation notes, methodological diagrams and procedures necessary for the right sequences of operation / manufacturing

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
Resources
  • Supervise the engineering office's method assistant and draftsmen.
  • Ensure that Lifting Operations supervisors and its teams comply with approved methodologies and procedures for operations.

  Budgets

  • Monitor the equipment of lifting operations and anticipate the orders required for operations.

  Procedures & processes

  • Respect and enforce the group's HSE rules and procedures
  • Issue calculation note, methodological procedure for weighing / skidding / loading operations.
  • Issue calculation notes, methodological procedures for the lifting operation and check the structural integrity while the load is being lifted.
  • Issue lifting plans for all loads greater than 10t.
  • Issue lifting plans for the certification of lifting equipment or lifting devices.
  • Participate in lifting methods review meetings with customers, assist Sonamet project engineers in the submission of necessary documents to the Project Methods.
  • Follow-up and update the list of certified hanging equipment and the list of certified operators. Organize and implement the certification process.
  • Update and publish site occupancy plan management, crane and lifting equipment planning, dock occupancy planning in close coordination with the manufacturing manager.

Manufacture

  • Participation in lifting and loading operations, assists the lifting supervisor  in the proper execution of lifting operations.
  • Coordinate the movement of barges / ships at berth under the formation of the Manufacturing Yard
  • Assists the manufacturing manager and plant manager in the preparation of skidding/loading operations.
  • Ensure at all times that lifting operations are carried out in accordance with safety rules and in safe conditions. Liaise with  the safety department to resolve safety issues during the preparation and execution of lifting operations.

AUTHORITY/DIMENSIONS
  • The Site Methods Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering. He will submit for approval to the Site Manager  all  requests with financial implications and all work procedures / drawings to be part of the database of rules and procedures of the Site.

INTERACTION
Internal
  • The Methods Engineer controls and manages all operations carried out by the Lifting Operations Department.
  • The method engineer supervises the engineering team dedicated to methods engineering work.
  • Method engineering helps project manufacturing engineers deliver the deliverables required during projects.
  • The methods engineer assists the plant manager in the process of certifying lifting equipment.
  • The methods engineer liaises with the structural engineer for non-standard structural analysis
External
  • The methods engineer participates in the reviews of the clients' methods according to the needs of the project.
  • The Methods Engineer ensures the certification of the equipment necessary for lifting operations.

CAPACITY PROFILE – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND BEHAVIOURS
  • Graduated from an engineering school
  • Experience in structural engineering is an advantage
  • English speaking

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The position is based in Lobito at the Sonamet shipyard.
