What is the role?

Seaway7 are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Engineering department. The Geotechnical Engineer will provide Geotechnical engineering knowledge and expertise to projects, supporting interpretation of provided geotechnical information, trencher selection and seabed preparation options.

What will your responsibilities be?

  • Understand and use geotechnical principles in detailed design for offshore wind farms
  • Act as geotechnical focal point of Project Team, taking active role in kick-off & progress meetings, manage own deliverables and those of assigned subcontractor, and interface with other project functions.
  • Interpret, review and comment on Client supplied geotechnical information and data, including geophysical, geotechnical, bathymetric and other related survey data.
  • Experienced in understanding behaviour and factors contributing to mobile seabed features, such as sandwaves and megaripples, and their effect on trenching tools and cable lay operations.
  • Good knowledge of how trenching equipment works and its uses and limitations, both for jet trenching tools, cutting trenching tools and other cable burial equipment available on the market.
  • Understand geotechnical risk and any associated financial/safety/quality implications to Seaway7.
  • Undertake geotechnical engineering calculations and design reports for cable/soil interaction.
  • Understand earthquake risks to cables and other subsea infrastructure and mitigation measures that can be taken.
  • Work under limited supervision of either Principal Engineer, Engineering Consultant-Specialist or Project Engineering Manager
  • Upto date knowledge of industry good practice and developments in geotechnical engineering and trenching activities.

  • Ability to lead and function within a design team and across multiple projects.
  • Ability to prioritise own workload, manage time accordingly
  • Manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers.
  • Manage change control within own remit on a project. 
  • Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints and inform team members where constraints will affect project.
