DESCRIPTION OF ROLE


We are looking for a Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Support Engineer to join our group based in Kuala Lumpur.

This efficiency is supported by the performance of the tools themselves, but also on:

-      How Engineers work with them (methods),

-      How they interact (process),

-      Where they run (High Performance Computing – HPC and Integrated Engineering Platform - IEP)

-      How we feed them (Data Management with Product Data Management – PDM - and Product Lifecycle Management - PLM)

-      How we analyse the data (Data Science)

 

Based within the Design & Analysis Group of Subsea7’s Global Project Centre & Asia Pacific (GPC&AP), CAE Support discipline assists GPC&AP Engineering, Group and Regions on demand to support and develop Subsea7 CAE capabilities and efficiency.

CAE Support engineer role is focus on supporting and developing HPC, IEP and CAE tools.

Our HPC on Premises is composed of 640 cores and 130Tb spread on 3 sites (France, UK and Malaysia).

IEP is a brand new Subsea7 platform designed to host Engineering tools developed in Python.

 

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

These shall include but not be limited to the following;


As CAE Support Engineer, you will be in charge of improving and developing:


HPC capabilities:


                                      i.    Support in roll-out and transfer of engineering calculations to Rescale

                                     ii.    Maintain and improve our calculation capacities in order to maximize the usage of our resources (CPU, memory, storage, licenses, Cloud credit…)

                                    iii.    Develop new HPC workflows to answer our Engineering needs (various disciplines and various CAE software package – Abaqus, Ansys, Orcaflex, Olga..)

                                   iv.    Develop our transition to Cloud Computing platform and the link with our HPC on Premises


Integrated Engineering Platform (Cloud):


                                      i.   Support the development and adoption of the platform where you will work alongside engineers and developers

                                     ii.   Be part of the IEP development team to provide feedback and improvement ideas


Access to calculation resources and modelling (tools, data and licenses). At the interface of Engineering users and IT experts, you support the end users, understand their issues with Engineering tools and facilitate the interface with IT or software vendors when needed. The scope is wide and rich as it encompasses all Engineering data and systems (HPC, PDM, PLM and our own development platform IEP).

 

AUTHORITY/DIMENSIONS

Functional:

·       Validate documents and actions produced under their responsibility.

·       Supervise trainees and apprentices during their mission.

·             Engineers from different disciplines

·             IEP developers

·             HPC solution providers

·             IT Teams

·             Software vendors

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Eagerness to support and solve technical issues (calculation environment issues, installation/configuration issues, access to licenses…)

Good inter-personal and communication skills, especially the adaptation to the partner (end-users, IT expert, software vendor, Engineering manager).

     
Essential

Engineering background

Scripting code: good experiences in Python, VBA or VB.net

CAD/CAE software package experience (example: AutoCAD, Inventor, Ansys, Abaqus, Orcaflex, Olga…)

 

Desirable

Experience with HPC system (on Premises and or on Cloud), PDM and PLM

Experience with Devops and Git
