Subsea7 is looking to recruit Associate Survey Technicians to join our extensive global talent pool and build a career in offshore subsea construction.  

As a Survey Technician you will be responsible for the installation, setup, operation and maintenance of electronic equipment used to support the positioning, measurement and seabed mapping requirements during pipe & cable installation, fixed and floating wind installations and subsea asset inspection & repair for some of the world’s leading offshore Energy projects.  

This role is for you if you are;

  • A recent graduate, or expect to graduate in the next 12 months from college or university with a qualification in Electronics & Electrical Engineering or related discipline 

  • Have relevant skills from other industry or military experience and are looking to establish a new career  

OVERVIEW OF ROLE 

Joining Subsea7 as an Associate Survey Technician you will receive training in the software and technologies that are deployed on our vessels and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) along with gaining first-hand experience in the offshore operations through supervised deployments to our offshore vessels.  

Under supervision of our Party Chief’s and Senior Survey Technicians you will learn to install, configure and operate survey software and equipment including fault diagnosis and repair where appropriate. You will become familiar with the responsibilities of a Survey Technician and you will be required to demonstrate the capability to extend your skills and act as online Surveyor where required to operate the survey software and acquire data from a suite of sensors including Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), acoustic positioning systems, Inertial Navigation systems (INS), Doppler Velocity Logs (DVLs), multibeam echosounders and many other ancillary sensors used to enable positioning, measurement and mapping at seabed depths of over 3000m.  

Career Journey 

As an Associate Survey Technician you will complete your initial technical training and gain sufficient offshore experience to allow you to complete the Competence Assessment for the role of Survey Technician. You will continue to develop your experience, skills and competence across a variety of vessel types and in different types of operation; working towards achieving the competence for Senior Survey Technician and then up to Survey Party Chief where you would be responsible for offshore survey operations on the vessel, supervising & developing the offshore survey team.  

As an offshore Survey Technician, your career within Subsea7 is only limited by your aspiration and desire, with opportunities to progress into other roles both offshore or onshore, either within Survey or in many other roles and functions in a global, multi-discipline organisation.  

  

 

Key responsibilities: 

As an Associate Survey Technician you will; 

  • Undertake required technical and mandatory safety training  

  • Work under the supervision of Survey Party Chief or Senior Survey Technician to develop knowledge & understanding of the software, sensors and techniques used offshore  

  • Review and understand project procedures and company standard operating procedures, checklists and guidelines and how they are used to control Survey & Inspection activities  

  • Install, configure and interface survey hardware, software and sensors, in compliance with manufacturer’s manuals, operating procedures and technical guidance. 

  • Maintain survey equipment in accordance with manufacturer and company instructions and maintain offshore equipment inventories and spares  

  • Fault-find and diagnose equipment failures and ensure that all technical faults and damage is appropriately recorded and reported 

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of practical seamanship, marine terminology and rigging skills. 

  • Check and prepare acoustic transponders and beacons prior to deployment ensuring equipment is appropriately charged and configured  

  • Assist with deployment and recovery of survey sensors in accordance with relevant vessel and standard operating procedures 

  • Develop knowledge of survey navigation and acquisition systems to support the online surveyor  

  • Participate and assist in the installation, setup, calibration and operation of survey and positioning equipment 

  • Manage the mobilisation and demobilisation of survey equipment from the offshore worksite ensuring that all associated cabling, manuals and accessories are included and inbound manifests are complete & accurate 

  • Demonstrate safety awareness and ensure compliance with Subsea7 HSEQ requirements at all times and actively participate in Task Risk Assessments (TRA), Tool Box Talks (TBT) and Time Out for Safety (TOFS) when required / directed. 

  • Understand and use the Survey Helpdesk and the available Global Applications & Technical support teams when required  

Key Requirements: 

  • Recognised higher education qualification in Electronics & Electrical Engineering or related discipline 

  • Graduating in current year, recently graduated or with relevant industry or military experience  

  • Comprehensive Communication and organisational skills are essential 

  • Ability to work in a team and contribute in a team environment 

  • Willingness to travel globally
