Subsea7 is looking for a skilled Senior Structural Engineer to join the engineering team based in St. John’s, Newfoundland Canada on a full-time, permanent basis. Operating in a technical, innovative and diverse environment the role will involve working with various diverse engineering projects.

 

The role will be responsible for supporting the execution of structural design scopes with tenders and live projects currently in execution and you will need to have sufficient knowledge and training related to structural design and analysis of structures within Marine or Oil and Gas industry.

 

What will you be doing?

 

  • Provide guidance, integrity, and knowledge in key areas of structural engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements, and good engineering practices.
  • Production of key structural engineering deliverables including design calculations, structural analysis and design reports according to relevant design codes and standards
  • Checking of design reports, design calculations and structural analyses as prepared by colleagues
  • Provide direction and support to drafting office
  • Checking of third-party submissions as required
  • Design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged industry Codes, Standards and Design Guidelines (e.g. CSA, AISC, DNV, etc); Client Specifications and Scopes of Work. Design work includes but not limited to: rigging design, seafastening design, grillage design, installation aids design, etc.
  • Stamp documents and drawings as required.
  • Mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Provide stress analysis utilizing STAAD.Pro (and ANSYS, where applicable)
  • Coordinate structural engineering support to project execution in line with defined budget and schedule
  • Liaise with project team and understand the interfaces within a project
  • Provide specialist structural engineering assistance during vessel mobilizations
  • Contribute as required to events such as Kick-off meetings, HIRAs, Design Reviews, etc.

 

What experience would we like you to have?

  • Professional qualifications – Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Civil/Structural/Naval)
  • Registered P.Eng with PEGNL
  • Relevant engineering experience (7+ years) in the design of structures within the Marine or Oil and Gas industry – includes but not limited to: rigging design, seafastening design, grillage design, installation aids design, etc.
  • Sound knowledge of STAAD.Pro, MathCAD and AutoCAD (2D) is required
  • Sound knowledge of SpaceClaim and ANSYS are considered an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Sound understanding of relevant design codes and standards (CSA, AISC, DNV, etc.)
  • Organized, self-motivated, pro-active, detail-oriented, and have good communication skills
  • Able to work within time/budget constraints
  • Presents self in a professional manner appropriate to the role
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with others
