DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

Subsea7 are looking for a principal engineer/technical lead in the Structures and Piping discipline to join our Asia and Pacific region, based in Kuala Lumpur. The qualified candidate will be responsible for the organisation, coordination, management of the interfaces, mentoring of the Team, the provision of technical expertise and will ultimately be responsible for Structural and Piping design activities of this Team to ensure successful delivery of high-quality engineering to meet commercial and technical needs.

As an expert in the Subsea Structures & Piping Design, you will be a reference to your Team and support the knowledge management as well as technology initiatives relating to the Structures & Piping Design discipline.

As a leader, you will be expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.


SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

Principal /Technical Lead Engineer provides specialist skills, integrity, and knowledge in key areas of discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice. Understands clients' needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions. Compliance with project plans, relevant engineering standards and contractual obligations is required.

Candidates shall be required to: 

  • Provide expert skills and knowledge through all stages of subsea structure design to the Structures and Piping engineering team, including supporting other engineering disciplines within Subsea7.

  • Works as part of the project team performing engineering for successful project delivery.

  • Organises and prioritises work scope which is subject to formal issuance.

  • Undertake design and engineering activities associated with Subsea Structure and Piping Design – including calculations, analysis, technical notes, design reports, and issues detailed drawings accepting full responsibility.

  • Identifies project opportunities, raising them to the required personnel.

  • Competent in identifying technical clarifications, originating technical queries and deviation requests.

  • Ensures full traceability of the technical development of the assigned scope throughout the life of the project.

  • Ensure engineering performed is effective and quality driven.

  • Actively engage in knowledge sharing, capture of Lessons Learned and application of Engineering Standards.

  • Ensures all relevant safety objectives are adhered to.

  • Trains and mentors’ other engineers in the discipline specifically junior engineers.

  • Development of engineering solutions in line with defined objectives.

  • Shares FEA knowledge providing guidance and solutions to other engineers in the discipline.

  • May support a team of engineers on a project or within a discipline

  • Work in collaboration with our alliance partners where appropriate.

  • Maintain communication with the Structures and Piping discipline engineering manager, in combination with project leads where appropriate.

  • Work efficiently to a high standard under limited supervision.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Candidates would ideally have Master of Engineering degree (MEng), or equivalent, from a recognised institute in; Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical, Automotive or Naval Architecture along with the following requirements:

Principal Engineer/Technical Lead

  • Acts as the technical lead across several projects within the Asia and Pacific region covering the structures and piping discipline.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of FEA – covering plastic and elastic analysis

  • Good working knowledge of internationally recognised design codes and standards.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize own and others' workload, manage time and change control accordingly and direct team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of program or budget

  • Competency in design and analysis software packages for FEA (Abaqus/Ansys etc) and beam elements (STAAD Pro/SACS etc) is essential

  • Passion for developing the technical skill of a young engineering team.

  • Proven experience in delivering subsea structure designs, such as ILT, PLET, Manifold, foundations (integrated/pre-installed/suction pile) as well as sea fastening and installation aids design.

The technical lead will be expected to communicate in clear and concise English, with the following key stakeholders:

  • All levels of engineers within the team and wider company

  • Clients for Technical Reviews (FEED/EPCI) and input studies

  • Other Disciplines including Fabrication, Materials and Welding, Pipeline Design, Geotechnical, RIAU, Pipeline Group (PG) and CAD

  • Engineering Discipline Managers and Project Engineering Management

  • Supply Chain Management and Suppliers
