Subsea7 has an opportunity for a Senior Tax Manager to join its global tax team, with a dedicated focus on its Middle East and Asia Pacific regions, based out of our Middle East region’s headquarters in Dubai on a full-time, permanent basis.

 

Reporting to the Subsea7 VP Tax in the UK, the Senior Tax Manager is responsible for strategic and operational tax issues, business partnering and tax governance for the regions’ entities in countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, the UAE, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia. The role currently has one direct report.

 

The role requires the forging of key relationships, and coordination with relevant finance leadership teams. The role further requires a high-level communicator with the ability to oversee a remote team, and to consult with senior stakeholders in multiple office locations, and to supervise projects across different disciplines.

 

The ideal candidate will have significant international corporate tax experience, experience in supervising a team, and the ability to work individually to manage and implement projects.

What will you be doing?

 

Projects and operations

 

  • Work to continually identify and implement tax efficiencies in contracting structures, managing / mitigating risk and adapting to legislative change, and other commercial constraints.
  • Oversee the provision of tax advice to tenders – including explaining recommendations on operating structure, the pricing of risk, and contractual terms and conditions.
  • Provide ongoing support to project teams during execution, staying abreast of commercial developments, and monitoring and advising on the tax implications of same.

 

Compliance and audits

 

  • Oversee tax audits and enquiries and ensure that all dealings with Tax Authorities are conducted in an open and professional manner.
  • Ensure external compliance obligations are met, tax risks identified and addressed, and appropriate records are maintained.
  • Review regional quarterly and annual external financial reporting submissions to Group Tax and ensure adherence to relevant policies.
  • Manage external tax advisers, maintaining / developing good local relationships and monitoring fee budgets.

 

Strategy and governance

 

  • Assume a significant role in delivering regional projects, including the establishment of joint ventures, entity re-financing, cash repatriation, restructures, and M&A.
  • Anticipate, identify, and make recommendations in respect of changes in law to regional management and to the Global Tax Team.
  • Provide direction, leadership and mentoring to regional direct report and local finance teams.

 

What experience would we like you to have?

 

Preferred Experience and Education

 

  • Professional tax, tax law, or accounting qualification, or a relevant degree equivalent.
  • At least 8 years professional experience is required, with significant demonstrable experience in international tax.
  • Experience in working with Middle East tax regimes (particularly Saudi Arabia and Qatar) highly desirable.
  • Good level of experience supervising and developing teams
  • Previous exposure to the extractive industries (oil & gas or mining) preferred.

 

Skills & Attributes

 

  • A clear and effective communicator is required, with great interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to deliver competing priorities, with a proven history in delivery.
  • Ability to work in teams across multiple jurisdictions and from a range of cultures.
  • An ability to work with numbers; Excel and SAP experience beneficial.
  • Candidates should be fluent in spoken and written English. Other languages – particularly Arabic and French – highly desirable
