Reporting to an Engineering Manager or Senior Engineering Manager, the Lead Engineer will have responsibility for a particular discipline area and/or planning and coordinating the technical expertise and services required to ensure successful delivery of high-quality engineering to meet commercial and technical needs. He/She is expected to improve the specific discipline work processes and be a technical governance for the Discipline. The scope will include studies and tenders as well as live projects.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

 

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and be involved in design of installation aids and other equipment required for use offshore or for use onshore in preparation for offshore activities.
  • Manage resources to witness directly or liaise with Subsea 7 Inspectors to ensure that suitable contractual activities such as load test, trial fits, are being carried out in accordance with Subsea 7 minimum requirements.
  • Manage the preparation of any engineering analysis of tasks relating to installation, to ensure the structural/operational integrity of the equipment during installation.
  • Sign and issue technical documentation as originator checker or approver, accepting personal responsibility for its adequacy.
  • Ensure the selection of suitable equipment to perform operational tasks offshore, checking all aspects of the equipment to ensure it is operated safely and efficiently with suitable certification provided to meet statutory regulations. Also liaise with vessel departments and third party contractors to ensure all equipment is fit for purpose and fully compatible with offshore worksite.
  • Manage the co-ordination/compilation of as-built material and commercial aspects of contractual variations from site/fabricators/offshore.
  • Ensure full traceability of the technical development of the assigned scope throughout the life of the project.
  • Undertakes responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to the Drawing Office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions.
  • Signs and issues technical documentation as originator or checker, accepting personal responsibility for its adequacy. Ensures all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed.
  • Trains / mentors more junior engineers.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Ability to lead and function within an engineering team and across multiple projects.
  • Ability to prioritise own and others’ workload, manage time accordingly and inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget.
  • Manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers.
  • Manage change control within own remit on a project.
  • Inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget.
  • Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints.

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Creative problem solving - able to suggest and develop new methods and ways of working
  • Sound communication skills – able to communicate ideas and results to various stakeholders both in written reports and in meetings, presentations etc.
  • The ability to work in a team as well as individually with a minimum of supervision
  • The ability to organize and prioritize own work and as such have responsibility for discrete work packages ongoing simultaneously
  • Understanding of clients’ needs and ability to suggest and apply “fit for purpose” solutions
