We are looking for a passionate Principal Structural Engineer to join our team at Global Project Centre London office on a permanent or contract basis.

Principal Structural Engineer will have responsibility for planning their workload, coordinating the technical skills required to ensure effective delivery of high-quality engineering to meet commercial and technical needs. The subsea structure design and analysis scope will include conceptual evolution of design in research and development, tenders, FEED and EPCI phases of a project. Compliance with project plans, relevant engineering standards and contractual obligations is required. The Principal Structural Engineer will work as part of a team but may have responsibility for discrete work packages.

 

What will you be doing?

  • Provide specialist skills, integrity, and knowledge in key areas of subsea structural design engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice.
  • Provide in-place, transportation, lifting, deployment, and retrieval analyses for the subsea structures for projects.
  • Provide installation aid and sea-fastening design for the offshore campaigns.
  • Responsible for deliverables which may include:
  • Originator and Checker of design reports including detailed analysis and calculations, in accordance with acknowledged industry codes, standards, design guidelines, client specifications and scopes of work.
  • Effectively closing internal and external review comments to get the design approved for construction.
  • Engineering support to Drawing Office and issuance of fabrication drawings at AFC.
  • Data Sheets, Tender documents, FEED study reports and various third-party submissions.
  • Weight Reports and MTO.
  • Support package engineering and management on large structural material procurement packages.
  • Provide structural analysis for various subsea structures, rigging/lifting equipment and sea-fastening arrangements utilizing STAAD Pro, SACs, Abaqus and ANSYS software.
  • Coordinate structural engineering support to the execution of multi-discipline projects in line with defined budget and schedule.
  • Understanding of Piping, Connector Types, Valves and Forgings.
  • Liaise with associated disciplines and understand the interfaces within a project.
  • Provide structural engineering support to other subsea related disciplines, assist with offshore and fabrication yard interfaces.
  • Provide structural support to Tenders, FEEDs and EPCI Phases.
  • May oversee a team of engineers on a project or within a discipline
  • Ensures all relevant safety objectives are adhered to.
  • Coach and mentor junior graduate engineers.
  • Competent in identifying technical clarifications, originating technical queries and deviation requests.
  • Ensures full traceability of the technical development of the assigned scope throughout the life of the project.
  • Fully responsible for coordinating and delivering scope in accordance with man-hour forecast and responsible for highlighting any change requests, deviations from original scope of work.
  • Ensure engineering performed is effective and quality oriented.
  • Actively engage in knowledge sharing, capture of Lessons Learned and application of Engineering Standards.
  • Development of engineering solutions in line with defined standards.
  • Shares knowledge providing guidance and solutions to other engineers in the discipline.
  • Promote personal CPD (Continued Professional Development) through regular engagement with the professional engineering community.
  • Work in collaboration with our alliance partners where appropriate.
  • Maintain communication with the Structures discipline engineering manager, in combination with project leads where appropriate.
  • Work efficiently to a high standard under limited supervision.

 

What experience would we like you to have?

Candidates would ideally have Master of Engineering degree (MEng), or equivalent, from a recognised institute in; Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical, Automotive or Naval Architecture along with the following requirements:

Extensive proven experience in a similar role providing structural analysis and design.

  • Experience of designing Flowline Structures (FLETs, ILS), manifolds, suction piles and Installation Aids including Sea-fastening.
  • Proven Knowledge of Pipelay Methods and Pipelay Vessels.
  • Familiarity of industry codes (API, AISC, DNV, ISO), standards and design guidelines
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of 3D Finite Element Analysis for the design of subsea components such as Mudmat, YOKE, Anchor Flanges, Bulkheads etc.
  • Deliver structural analysis work on projects, with the ability to support package engineering and management.
  • Provide structural engineering support to the execution of multi-discipline Tenders, FEEDs and EPIC phases.
  • Competent user of software such as STAAD Pro, SACs, Abaqus or ANSYS.
  • Effective communication, collaboration skills, both written and verbal.
  • Competent with up-to-date computer applications including MS Word, Excel and Mathcad.
  • Ability to solve technical problems and be originator of CLIENT issued TQ’s/DVR’s.
  • Proven history within previous and current employment.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise work.
  • Ability to work individually or as a team member depending on project needs.
  • Experience of either offshore support or within fabrication yards.
  • Membership to a relevant professional body.
  • Engineering experience within the Subsea industry
