Job Title:                    Mechanical Engineer I/II - Customized Solutions

Location:                    Houston, TX

Classification:            Exempt           

We at Subsea 7 UK & Global IRM are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic team player to join our engineering group in Houston. 

Overview of Role

A Mechanical Engineer in the Customized Solutions team will be a problem solver with expectations to find practical answers to interesting challenges. Ideal candidates will be proficient in 3D CAD application, analysis, calculation, and package management. Candidates will be expected to be accountable for a scope of work from initial enquiry through to concept, detailed design, delivery, and project close out. The role involves working as part of a multi-disciplined team as well as client and supplier interface (internal & external).

The role is accountable for contributing to the development of all Subsea 7’s policies and procedures. 

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

Main Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Experience with a fast response, service-oriented business
  • Strong understanding of and experience with project and product life cycle
  • Proficiency with schedule management
  • Aptitude with developing complex systems.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining products or services to customers and prospective customers.
  • Use technical skills to be able to explain to potential customers the benefits of our products vs. other products.
  • Confer with customers and engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine system requirements.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements and provide sales support.
  • Plan and modify products to meet customer needs.
  • Help clients solve problems with installed equipment.
  • Recommend improved materials or equipment to customers, showing how changes will lower costs or increase production.
  • Previous operational experience in the ROV industry
  • Experience in Vendor and 3rdParty management
  • Bid support:
    • Provide technical input and pricing for external tenders.
    • Provide technical input and pricing internally for Subsea 7 tenders.
    • Develop bid documents including story board, operational methodology, and explanation of concept.
    • Communicate with client to understand and respond to clarifications.

Required Qualification:

  • Professional qualifications – Accredited Engineer Degree. Preferably Mechanical, Ocean, or Structural
  • Relevant Engineering Experience in Subsea Oil and Gas – 2+ years.
  • Familiarity with ABS, DNV, and ASME Codes and Standards
  • Finite Element Analysis Programs
  • Material Selection
  • Technical calculations
  • 3D Modeling Software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and personal organization.
  • Strong background in mechanical/hydraulic design engineering and exposure to ROV/Diver intervention activities. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AutoCAD Inventor experience
  • Structural Design (Desirable but not essential)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel and MathCad
