OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Subsea 7 has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to be part of the specialist geotechnical discipline within the Subsea 7 Stavanger office, within the North Sea and Canada region.  The Geotechnical Department reports to the Specialist Technical Services function within North Sea and Canada Central Engineering.

Key responsibilities:

  • Complete geotechnical engineering aspects of tenders, studies and projects, with support from senior team members, for the Oil&Gas and Renewable markets
  • Evaluate the quality of available site investigation data for tenders, studies and projects, and be capable of specifying and supervising site investigations when needed
  • Interpret and use offshore site investigation data and be able to integrate results into parameters for detailed design of subsea infrastructure
  • Undertake detailed design and installation of gravity based, piled & suction installed foundations and evaluate/recommend reeled-pipe-lay initiation anchorage
  • Use of limit analysis for estimation of collapse load for foundations subject to complex loading
  • Use of 2D and 3D finite element software (Plaxis) for analysis and design of complex soil-structure interaction problems
  • Carry out soil/pipeline interaction analyses, and support the associated engineering disciplines for pipeline & umbilical installation analyses, stability analyses, buckling and walking assessments
  • Complete offshore trenching and rock dumping assessments
  • Understand the nature of the various geohazards affecting a site and evaluate their impact on the construction
  • Understand general geotechnical issues and evaluate any associated financial / safety / quality implications to Subsea 7
  • Take part of offshore assignments, such as the supervision of offshore site investigations, foundation installation, and pipeline trenching works as required
  • Participate to the development of Subsea 7 in the offshore renewables industry
  • Contribute to Innovation and Technology Development related to soil/pipe and soil/structure interactions. Contribute to internal R & D activities relating to soil/structure and/or pipeline interaction
  • Be able to innovate and think differently to optimise technical solutions
  • Be able to present their work effectively to multi-disciplinary teams and in front of clients
  • The selected candidate will have good commercial awareness and experience of producing Cost, Time & Resource plans for tenders & studies
  • The selected candidate will report to the Discipline manager and be part of a successful multi-cultural and international team

Qualifications:

  • Master degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering with specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ relevant working experience
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding and experience of offshore site investigations, foundation design, pipeline / soil interaction & pipeline mechanical protection aspects

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Creative problem solving - able to suggest and develop new methods and ways of working
  • Understanding of clients’ needs and ability to suggest and apply “fit for purpose” solutions
  • Sound communication skills – able to communicate ideas and results to various stakeholders (both in written reports and in meetings, presentations etc.) particularly in English
  • The ability to work in a team as well as individually with a minimum of supervision
