To ensure successful subsea project outcomes, front-end activities must be carried out in a robust manner to ensure early strategic decisions are of high confidence that the optimum solution is selected and developed.

Subsea 7 Malaysia has established a Field Development Group (FDG) modelled on the successful implementation of similar Groups in other regions. We will review development options, provide the Client with indicative costs and schedules, identify key risks and opportunities and provide recommendations.

 The Field Development Group in Malaysia networks with our peers in other Subsea 7 offices around the globe, so that we can leverage and include best practices and lesson learned.  Further, we seek out new technologies that can be brought to the table to bolster our commitment to robust, cost-effective and reliable solutions for our clients.


The Field Development Group 

  • Provide the technical input as well as the cost basis for all studies and (pre)FEED proposals;
  • Provide the technical support and management of paid and unpaid studies;
  • Provide the technical support to Subsea 7 Business Development Department in APAC, when engaging with clients in the early stages of a development;
  • Provide the technical support for concept select studies and pre-FEED and FEED work in support of the GoM Regional Strategy.

The Field Development Engineer will be assigned various tasks by the Field Development Technical Director in support of the overall strategy and requirements of the Field Development Group.

Specific Key Responsibilities & Activities

  • Provides specialist skills, integrity, and knowledge in key areas of discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements, and current good engineering practice. Understands clients' needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions
  • Deliver the technical input, as well as support, establishing the cost basis for all studies and (pre)FEED proposals.
  • Support the Field Development Group to deliver the technical strategy with regards to client needs on tenders and projects, and measure Subsea 7 performance targets.
  • Undertakes responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to the Drawing Office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports, and various 3rd-party submissions
  • Manage any resource assigned by the Engineering Department and other functions as and where applicable and needed for the successful execution of studies and projects.
  • As and when required by the Field Development Technical Director, may be required to act as Study or Project Manager on a small study.
  • Review own work and work performed by resources assigned on a continuous basis, to ensure that
  • The technical scope is being delivered in accordance with the budget and schedule
  • The technical scope is being delivered to the quality standards expected within Subsea 7 and addressing the specific needs and expectations of the client.
  • Risks are being identified and mitigation strategies put in place.
  • Opportunities are being captured and recorded appropriately.
  • An efficient resolution is developed for technical issues slowing progress and/or affecting performance. As appropriate drive higher level management support and actions.
  • Lessons learned are captured and recorded appropriately.
  • Maintain an accurate register of progress, man-hours, and forecast at completion for any of the CTR’s or work scopes being executed, and report this to the Project / Study Manager on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure the project is in compliance with the requirements of the BMS ensuring the BMS procedures and processes are understood.
  • All work performed by any member of the Field Development Group shall be stored in an appropriate library on the Field Development Group SharePoint site).
  • Foster a strong HSEQ culture within the teams.
  • Encourage use of the Lessons Learned and Synergy systems for continuous improvement.
  • Provide input to tenders and project technical proposals as required.
  • Attendance at Design Reviews, HIRA’s and Project Meetings as required.
  • Ensure appropriate review is performed on specific project issues, ensuring the engagement of the wider organization such as the COE network, etc as may be appropriate.
  • Ensure that the technical processes have the correct interfaces with other processes in the BU (e.g. SCM, Project Control, HSEQ, etc).
  • Identify and provide solutions for common technical project issues.
  • Field Development Director shall be informed of progress on all ongoing activities as well as communications with other functions in the company.
  • Contribute to a positive and proactive working environment within the Field Development Group that encourages team work, a spirit of openness, honesty and integrity.
  • Support the Field Development Group in all of its activities as directed and required by the Field Development Director.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the Engineering Department in Malaysia, ensuring that:
  • Engineering resource needs for studies and projects are communicated in a timely manner;
  • Progress and performance issues are discussed and addressed appropriately by the Engineering Department;
  • Maintain  a strong working relationship with the other function in APAC to ensure a consistent approach across the entire GoM business and to foster a problem-solving mentality, capitalize on synergies, and capture lessons learned.
  • Ensure correct use of the overall technical support disciplines and feedback to these.


  • It is essential that candidates must have 3 to 7 years of progressive Subsea Engineering Experience.
  • Experience detailing/specifying umbilical components supporting the control systems.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in design, installation and procurement for projects including SURF, Conventional and IMR.
  • Management of relevant HSEQ activities.


  • Operate within the Business Code of Conduct.

  • Support standards and procedures for the Engineering Function.
