Job Title: Senior Structural Engineer                                    


Based within the Design & Analysis Group of Subsea 7’s Global Project Centre, you will be specialising in the design and analysis of offshore subsea structures (PLETs, PLEMs, PLRs, Manifolds, UTA, Mudmat etc) and providing structural support to the installation team.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

 Specific Key Responsibilities & Activities

  • Provide specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of subsea structures engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice.
  • Undertake responsibility for production of deliverables, which includes preparation and checking of design reports, engineering support to Drawing Office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various third party submissions.
  • Provide in-place design, transportation, lifting analysis and sea fastening design of the offshore structures for projects using various software packages
  • Design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged industry codes, standards, design guidelines, client specifications and scopes of work
  • Production and checking of design documentation including feasibility reports, detailed design reports, equipment specifications etc
  • Production of specifications, data sheets and MTOs
  • Review engineering drawings and provide technical support to fabrication sites
  • Support package engineering and management on large structural material procurement packages
  • Provide structural analysis for various subsea structures, rigging/lifting equipment and sea fastening arrangements utilizing NSO, STAAD Pro, FS2000 and ABAQUS or similar software
  • Coordinate structural engineering support to the execution of multi-discipline projects in line with defined budget and schedule
  • Understanding of Piping, Connector Types, Valves and Forgings
  • Liaise with associated subsea related disciplines and understand the interfaces within a project
  • Provide specialist structural engineering assistance during occasional periods of offshore or site working
  • Provide specialist structural support to Business Acquisition and FEED study execution
  • Coach and mentor junior graduate engineers
  • Actively participate in relevant training to pursue continuing professional development


Key Skills and Experience

  • Relevant engineering experience within the Oil and Gas industry ideally subsea structural design and analysis                     
  • Familiarity of industry codes (API, AISC, DNV), standards and design guidelines
  • Advanced knowledge in the use of 3D Finite Element Analysis for the design of subsea components such as Mudmat, YOKE, Anchor Flanges, Bulkheads etc
  • Deliver structural analysis work on project
  • Ability to support package engineering and management
  • Provide structural engineering support to the execution of multi-discipline projects, Business Acquisition and FEED study execution
  • Efficient use of the following software, NSO, STAAD Pro, FS2000 and ABAQUS or similar
  • Excellent communication, collaboration skills, both written and verbal
  • Competent with up-to-date computer applications including MS Word, Excel and Mathcad.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems and be originator author of CLIENT issued TQ’s/DVR’s
  • Proven track record within previous/current employment
  • Ability to prioritise and organise work

Desirable Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Degree qualified, preferably in Structural/Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 years practical industrial experience (post Graduate scheme or equivalent) in relevant industry
  • Experience in grillage and sea fastening design of structures and other transported items
  • Experience of either offshore support or within fabrication yards
  • Membership to a relevant professional body
  • Engineering experience within the Subsea industry (EPC/EPCI previous experience ideally)
  • Familiarity with recognised industry engineering software
