As Geotechnical Engineer you will undertake a varied and challenging role within a diverse and collaborative environment. We also offer the opportunity to participate in tenders, studies and execute stage projects within the SURF sector.
We are open to applicants of all levels from Junior up to Principal level or with demonstrable role relevant experience.
Along with flexible and hybrid working options, we can also offer both staff and contractor engagement routes.
The Geotechnical Department feeds into to our Specialist Technical Services team within the Central Engineering function. This function provides design engineering expertise to our UKGIRM (UK & Global IRM) Business Unit
- Complete geotechnical engineering aspects for SURF scopes, collaborating with wider team
- Evaluate the quality of available site investigation data for offshore energy projects and be capable of specifying site investigations when required
- Interpret and use offshore site investigation data and be able to integrate results into ground models and derive parameters for the detailed design of subsea infrastructure
- Undertake detailed design and installation of gravity based, piled and suction installed foundations and evaluate/recommend reeled-pipe-lay initiation anchorage
- Use of limit analysis for estimation of collapse load for foundations subject to complex loading, such as PLAXIS or OPTUM G3
- Perform geotechnical risk assessments and identification of geo-hazards and ground risk level
- Design, execute and management of mechanical protection trenching & rock dumping scopes and complete seabed preparation analysis ahead of product/structure installation
- Participate in offshore assignments, such as the supervision of offshore site investigations, foundation installation, and mechanical protection of products e.g. trenching and rock dumping works, as required
What experience would we like you to have?
- Degree qualified, in a relevant subject such as Civil Engineering, Geoscience or Geology, with a specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering. Masters level would be advantageous
- Demonstrable role relevant experience, with a working understanding of offshore site investigations, foundation design, product / soil interaction & product mechanical protection aspects
- Practical experience of GIS data systems, such as ArcGIS and ArcMAP, is beneficial but not essential
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, builds and maintains positive internal / external collaborative relationships and can provide mentorship and guidance
- Commercially aware with effective planning and organising skills, able to identify and effectively prioritise workload and efficiently meet multiple, often competing deadlines
- Highly numerate, with excellent analytical skills, and an ability to work with detail and accuracy
- Flexible to adapt to changing priorities within a fast-paced 24/7 global business
- Pro-active and solutions based, able to understand business and client needs and develop new and innovative ‘fit for purpose’ solutions
- Committed to continuous improvement and identification of efficient work methods and processes
- Ability to undertake reasonable planned travel and offshore assignments, as required
