We welcome applications from experienced Commercial Lawyers or Advisors with established experience in the UK energy sector, particularly those with expertise in offshore and EPCI contract negotiations. Candidates with International energy experience will also be considered.
What will you be doing?
You’ll provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice to our UK & Global IRM business unit with a level of autonomy and support from an experienced team. Primarily supporting tendering activities on a day-to-day basis, duties will include assessment of risk, contract review/negotiation, legal advice and support to various departments on a range of topics.
Main duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Be responsible for giving commercially focused legal advice to the business.
- Collaborate with tender managers to develop effective contractual/negotiation strategies for each tender and type of work.
- Review and qualify contract terms contained within prospective clients’ invitations to tender (in partnership with the relevant tender manager) and attend client negotiations.
- Work with tender managers to develop and make recommendations to senior management and seek appropriate approvals as necessary.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the team’s strategy and objectives.
- Providing guidance to contracts department, supply chain and project personnel (execution phase) on contractual wording/risk mitigation and advising on contractual interpretation.
- Draft and review general legal agreements including confidentiality agreements, mutual hold harmless agreements, parent company guarantees, memorandum of understanding, pre-bid agreements, co-operation agreements.
- Liaising with various other support departments such as Insurance, Tax and Treasury.
- Provide compliance advice, including an active role in client and supplier due diligence.
- Support various internal service providers, including by delivering training and promoting contractual awareness within our business.
- Support senior members of the Legal team.
- Stay abreast of legal and geopolitical developments that may impact our business.
What experience would we like you to have?

- A Commercial lawyer /advisor (UK qualified preferred, but not essential).
- Relevant work experience (either in-house or private practice) within the UK Energy sector. International energy experience will be considered.
- Ability to place contractual risks in their true practical and commercial perspective.
- Experience of reviewing, negotiating and advising on offshore industry contracts, particularly EPCI negotiation.
- Effective verbal and written communication that enhances teamwork and collaboration.
- Demonstrates credibility and professionalism, operates with the highest standards of integrity, preserving confidentiality at all times.
- Takes initiative and ownership, efficiently organizing their work schedule, while able to work collaboratively with team members and key stakeholders.
- Skilled in planning, motivated and accustomed to meeting multiple and competing deadlines.
