What will you be doing?
Subsea7 has an opportunity for a Naval Architect and Structural Technical Authority to join our Project and Offshore Operations (P&OO) team in our Westhill, Aberdeen office, on a full time, staff basis.
P&OO are a global internal service provider of Subsea7’s fleet, assisting our project teams to ensure the right people, vessels and equipment are in the right place at the right time with the right processes to do their job in a safe and compliant way.
The Naval Architect & Structural Technical Authority (TA) has responsibility for a team of Structural Engineers and Naval Architects, who provide technical instruction and guidance for our fleet of vessels and associated equipment, helping to ensure that our operations are performed safely and to technical industry standard applications for all company equipment / assets.
This role reports to the P&OO Fleet and Equipment Technical & Engineering Manager and will liaise regularly with internal stakeholders such as Vessel Superintendents and Project Managers and Engineers to ensure successful delivery of our projects so candidates should have a good level of interpersonal skills and be adept at building relationships.
This will be a highly varied role supporting different vessels, projects and levels of stakeholder engagement but some of the main responsibilities will be:
- Participate in routine reviews of Maintenance & Repair scopes of work with the respective vessel teams
- Ensure that budgeted Capital Expenditure applications are submitted to fleet management in a timely manner with proper business justification and that these projects when approved are delivered on time and on budget
- Responsible for the continuous improvement of Engineering standards documentation within the BMS including technical management instructions and other departmental instructions to maximise their technical and commercial effectiveness
- Ensure timely and accurate inputs (specifications, budget and schedule) are provided to the Technology & Asset Development team for all equipment spreads being part of a new build vessel programme. Once approved, ensure the delivery of the new built systems and associated equipment is performed to the satisfaction of the company management
- Produce analysis reports and provide feedback on all aspects to F&E Senior Management as and when required
- Supports the professional and career development of self and others through continued professional training, mentoring, personnel development reviews and on the job development
What experience would we like you to have?
- Degree Qualified in Naval Architecture or similar subject. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree qualification
- Chartered Engineer or working towards chartered status
- Proven demonstrable operational and asset management experience within the marine industry and an in-depth technical working knowledge of Engineering legislation and practices
- Previous experience of drawing interpretation/validation and responsibility for key documentation approval and management
- A proven effective leader with a positive approach who can engage a team through coaching and mentoring to continuously develop.
- Good knowledge of ship Classification Society rules and international marine legislation (SPS, SOLAS, MARPOL etc). Experience in the design and operation of offshore construction vessel
