As a Safety Engineer you will undertake a varied and challenging role within a diverse and collaborative environment. We offer the opportunity to participate in tenders, studies and execute stage projects within the SURF sector.
We are open to applicants of all levels from Junior up to Senior level or with demonstrable role relevant experience.
Along with flexible and hybrid working options, we can also offer both staff and contractor engagement routes.
The Safety Engineering Department feeds into to our Specialist Technical Services team within the Central Engineering function. This function provides design engineering expertise to our UKGIRM (UK & Global IRM) Business Unit. The role involves providing Safety Engineering support to design and installation projects and construction / IRM scopes. Typical activities / deliverables include:
- Technical safety studies including HAZID and Design Reviews. Initially support in preparation and reporting and with increasing involvement you will be encouraged to facilitate and lead these and similar meetings. Potential for input to HAZOP studies.
- Consequence assessments including dropped object impact assessment and subsea gas release
- Support for Diving scopes for example: isolations for intervention and review of non-standard isolations; electrical safe distance calculations; assessment of diving in the vicinity of pressurised systems; and support for risk assessments.
- SIL Assessments, ALARP and Reliability Demonstration
- Provide support in department led training in Subsea Isolations for Engineers
- Review of specifications, scopes of work and procedures, produce CTRs for tenders
- Support for technology development projects including: preparing and chairing failure mode assessments (e.g. FMECA); Technology Readiness assessment and Technical Risk Categorisation (API 17N); support for Qualification to DNV RP A203
- Working to the Subsea 7 in-house Safety Engineering Standards and Guidance, provide input to develop these as appropriate
- In general Safety Engineers work with the wider engineering and project teams to ensure fitness-for-purpose of the design and operations with Legislative and HS&E compliance
- Identification and management of risk factors effecting the successful conclusion of the project
What experience would we like you to have?
The applicant should be degree qualified in a relevant engineering subject (with a focus on Safety, Loss Prevention, Risk or Process Safety advantageous). With up to 5 years of experience working within the field of Technical Safety or Reliability Engineering, preferably with experience working within either the subsea oil & gas or petrochemical / process sectors.

- Commercially aware with effective planning and organising skills, able to identify and effectively prioritise workload and efficiently meet multiple, often competing deadlines
- Numerate, with strong analytical skills, and an ability to work with detail and accuracy
- Committed to continuous improvement and identification of efficient work methods and processes
- Ability to work with multi-discipline technical teams
