Title:  Senior Pipelay Support Engineer

Reporting to the Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer, the Senior Pipelay Support Engineer provides engineering and technical expertise to the project team, supporting more senior engineers or managers.

The requirement is to produce detailed Installation Engineering Procedure or Document to deliver transportation and installation scopes, while also managing aspects of product design and Vendor documentation including interface with Vendor and SCM. Plan, detail and review technical documentation relating to Offshore pipeline installation.

Work may include supporting studies, tenders as well as live projects. Senior Engineers may be technical specialists within a specific discipline and support the knowledge management and technology initiatives relating to the discipline. Work may be carried out onshore or offshore, depending upon the discipline in question.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

What will you be doing?

  • Interface with project team, pipeline group, engineering teams and SCM
  • Support the pipeline package manager with technical inputs and preparations required for offshore pipeline installation.
  • Co-ordinate with Pipeline group for issuance of installation deliverables, issue technical queries and MOCs related to the scope.
  • Responsible for managing pipeline loadout offshore
  • Responsible for review and managing fabrication of installation aids
  • Plan, detail, develop/review technical documentation like DMA anchor initiation, anchor pile or bowstring initiation, loadout of line pipes.
  • Support mobilization and de-mobilization of pipelay vessels and associated spread vessels, interfacing with operations and Pipeline group
  • Support all structural modifications required onboard pipelay vessel/barges
  • Co-ordinate and interface with Vessel owners on behalf of pipeline group
  • Undertake and check others’ analysis, design and engineering activities associated with loadouts and pipeline initiation
  • · Ensure design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged industry Codes, Standards and Design Guides (e.g. DNVGL-ST-N001); Client Specifications and Scopes of Work, and Subsea 7 internal standard (BMS)
  • Be aware of the Overall project / Tender planning and responsible of the planning of his / her Scope of Work.
  • Conduct constructability sessions including all relevant stakeholders.
  • Follow-up progress and compliance of the supplier in close interface with SCM function
  • Follow-up on detail engineering activities, fabrications, and testing
  • Senior member of Installation engineering team within projects, tenders and/ or within a discipline. May direct small teams related to his/her scope.
  • Under limited supervision, independently evaluates, organizes and prioritizes work.
  • Involved in the conceptual and detailed Offshore Installation Engineering studies,
  • Ensure risk assessments are carried out for all planned work including all relevant parties and authorities (internally and externally)
  • Support on work permits required for execution of work are identified and adequate coverage is in place during the execution phase.
  • Ensure full traceability of the technical development of the assigned scope throughout the life of the project,
  • Support Engineering Manager for external and internal interfaces (external: Clients, Subcontractors; Internal: other Disciplines, i.e. Operation, Analysis, Designer, HSE, SCM),
  • Working with Analytical, detail engineering and/or Structure Team in designing installation aids and other equipment required for use offshore/onshore to support installation activities.
  • Provides support to Offshore Installation Engineering Team during project operation,
  • Participate actively in mentoring graduates,
  • Participate actively in the Installation Project Engineering Discipline/department know-how consolidation,
  • Proposes safe and innovative solutions allowing cost & risks reduction.
  • Understand Supply Chain Management processes, key SCM commodity strategies, and project risk assessment/ mitigation processes.
  • Operate within standardized engineering policies, processes and systems of the Business Management System (BMS),
  • Ensure that specifications and scopes of work within the assigned Project scope have been reviewed and agreed by the relevant centers of competence and that all quality issues are captured in the relevant Quality Control Plan.

What experience would we like you to have?

  • Ability to work independently within installation engineering projects.
  • Having good communication skills, oral, written and electronic.
  • Ability to prioritize own and others’ workload, manage time and change control accordingly.
  • Ability to participate in the interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers.
  • Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints.
  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
  • Ability to guide and Mentor graduates and junior engineers.
  • Offshore Experience in Rigid pipeline installation
  • Offshore Experience in different pipeline initiation activities (DMA, Bowstring, Anchored
  • pile initiations etc.)
  • Experience in mobilization of anchored lay barges (preferred)
  • Experience in Shallow water pipelay and shore pulls
  • Experience on ARAMCO or Qatar projects
  • Preferably have installation analyses knowledge

Profile Must Have:

  • Good verbal and written English,
  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s in relevant engineering discipline,
  • More than 8 years of overall working experience in oil and gas industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in similar offshore pipelay projects
  • Able to travel to either onshore or offshore sites when required
  • Able to work extended hours occasionally to meet job / project requirement
