What will you be doing?
Subsea 7 are now seeking a dedicated and driven individual to join our growing team in Dubai, UAE. Reporting to the Subsea 7 Piping, Valves and Connector Discipline Manager, the Senior Piping & Valve Engineer will have responsibility for all valve and piping related packages of work from initial tender, pre-feed engineering analysis to project execution.
The engineer will plan their workload, coordinating the technical expertise required to ensure successful delivery of high-quality engineering to meet commercial and technical needs. He/she is expected to improve the specific discipline work processes and be a technical governance for the Discipline.
Responsibilities:
The Senior Piping & Valve Engineer provides specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice. Understands clients' needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions. Compliance with project plans, relevant engineering standards and contractual obligations is required. The engineer will work as part of a team but may have responsibility for discrete work packages. All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a culture of ethics, integrity and contribute a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7.
Candidates shall be required to:
• Provide expert skills and knowledge in valve and piping related scopes to the engineering team, including supporting other engineering disciplines within Subsea7.
• Work as part of the project team, supporting the Project Lead Engineer in performing engineering for successful project delivery.
• Organise and prioritise work scope which is subject to formal issuance.
• Identify project opportunities, raising them to the required personnel.
• Competent in identifying technical clarifications, originating technical queries and deviation requests.
• Ensure full traceability of the technical development of the assigned scope throughout the life of the project.
• Ensure engineering performed is effective and quality driven.
• Actively engage in knowledge sharing, capture of Lessons Learned and application of Engineering Standards.
• Ensure all relevant safety objectives are adhered to.
• Train and mentor other engineers in the discipline specifically junior engineers.
• Development of engineering solutions in line with defined objectives.
• Share knowledge providing guidance and solutions to other engineers in the discipline.
• Promote personal CPD (Continued Professional Development) through regular engagement with the professional engineering community.
• Work in collaboration with our alliance partners where appropriate.
• Maintain communication with the Structures and Piping discipline engineering manager, in combination with project leads where appropriate.
• Under limited supervision, independently evaluate, organise and prioritise work which is normally subject to internal checking and approval.
• Undertake analysis, design and engineering activities associated with Piping Design – Wall Thickness Calculations, Piping Stress Analysis, Detailed Drawings (GA & Isometric), piping layouts and ownership of Material Take-Offs.
• Represent the Company in meetings/correspondence with Clients, subcontractors, 3rd parties, etc. in a technical capacity.
What experience would we like you to have?
Requirements:
Candidates would ideally have an Engineering degree (BEng), or equivalent, from a recognised institute in; Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical, Automotive or Naval Architecture along with 8 years proven experience in a similar role providing valve expertise.
• Sound engineering knowledge of various valve types including expertise in design, functionality, and testing.
• Knowledge of Topside valve engineering is required; Subsea valve engineering experience is advantageous but not essential.
• Awareness of actuated valve supply is advantageous to the role.
• Knowledge of the valve market in the Middle East is highly recommended.
• Strong knowledge of materials of construction deployed in the valve industry.
• Good knowledge of codes and standards such as DNVGL, ISO, API, especially API 6D.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of international piping design standards, including ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, B16.34, B16.5, and other relevant codes, to support the development of safe, efficient, and code-compliant piping systems.
• A good commercial understanding is preferable for the role.
• Review client specifications and deliver technical scope of work ensuring both client, international standards, and Subsea 7 requirements are accommodated.
• Prepare and review Material Requisitions, Valve Data Sheet, Piping material specifications aligned with project requirements and international standards.
• Responsible for technical bid evaluations, delivering feedback to procurement.
• Originates or checks technical documentation, accepting personal responsibility for its adequacy.
• Ensures technical deliverables are consistent to maintain contractual, code compliance, and the relevant agreements are formalised in due time to commercially protect Subsea 7 (i.e., client-approved TSOWs or TDEQs. Supplier clarifications, and deviations
• Responsible for developing layout & Equipment plan, isometric drawings and pipe support standard using 2D and 3D modelling tools (e.g., MicroStation, E3D, Smart Plant 3D)
• Develop piping routing in line with P&ID, process, access, maintenance and operational clearances requirements
• Participate in site surveys and support fabrication and commissioning activities as required.
• Conduct model reviews and implement comments from clients and stakeholders.
