Introduction

 

Subsea7 are looking for a motivated Apprentice Technician to join our workshop team based out of our Dalmuir and Old Kilpatrick workshops, near Glasgow, whilst studying at Glasgow Clyde College (Anniesland campus). 

 

This four year Modern Apprenticeship is designed for people at the very beginning of their career journey. Whether you’re getting ready to leave school or have recently started working and want to grow your practical skills. You will build real workplace experience while finishing your NC qualification alongside structured classroom instruction. It’s the perfect way to learn and grow your confidence as you take your first steps into a long term career. It will also provide a clear pathway into further education through a supported HNC programme.

 

Once you complete the apprenticeship, exciting opportunities may open for international travel and overseas assignments. You could find yourself supporting projects around the world, gaining exposure to different cultures, teams, and ways of working.

 

These global experiences can significantly accelerate your professional growth, helping you build confidence, broaden your skill set, and pave the way for sustained career progress.

 

What will you be doing?

 

  • Follow a structured vocational training program comprising of onsite workshop experience and college attendance.
  • Learn how to service and maintain a variety of pipeline fabrication equipment for the Oil & Gas Industry – from electrical and electronic welding tools to hydraulic pipe-facing equipment and pneumatic clamps.
  • Complete any paperwork needed for your role and keep on top of your college work.
  • Work closely with experienced mentors who will help you apply what you learn in real engineering scenarios.
  • Get involved in practical projects designed to develop your professional skills and support your academic progress.

 

Educational Structure: 


Year 1:
Build a solid foundation in engineering principles by attending college four days a week and spending one day in the Subsea7 workshop. During this year, you will work toward earning an NC (National Certificate) and begin completing your PEO2 (Performing Engineering Operations).

 

Year 2:
Attend college two days a week and spend the remaining three days in the workshop. This year, you will complete your PEO2, meeting the requirements of a multi skilled engineering role with an electrical focus, while also beginning your progress toward a Higher National Certificate (HNC).

 

Years 3 & 4:
Attend college on a day release basis to work toward an HNC in Engineering Systems. Throughout this period, an assessor from Anniesland College will visit Subsea7 to carry out assessments, including direct observations, witness statements, and review of your logbook.

 

What experience would we like you to have?

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Have a minimum of 3 National 5 qualifications including Maths and a STEM subject, or be actively working towards them.
  • Able to demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills, showing you can learn and contribute both in the classroom and on the job.
  • Able to show a genuine interest in engineering, with clear motivation to develop your skills in this field
  • Be able to demonstrate a methodical approach to challenges, with effective problem-solving skills
  • Able to demonstrate good time management skills – this role will involve balancing college studies with day to day workplace responsibilities.
  • Able to demonstrate a good level of understanding of safe working practices and the importance of following them in an environment where safety is a key priority.

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prior exposure to an engineering environment through internships, work experience, or hobbies.
  • Beneficial but not mandatory to hold or be pursuing a PEO (Performing Engineering Operations) and NC in Electrical Engineering.
