Short Description

We are looking for a motivated Technology Development & Materials Engineering Specialist to join our team on a permanent basis. This role can be based in any of the following offices: Westhill (Aberdeen); Old Kilpatrick (Glasgow) or Suresnes (Paris).

 

Within the Technology Development Department, the TD & Materials Engineering Specialist will be part of the Strategic Program called “Cost Efficient Materials” and will support the Program Manager to develop and deploy his Roadmap. He will be responsible for the execution of a part of this program.
 

What will you be doing?

  • Provide specialist support to projects and other disciplines within Subsea 7 with regards to materials selection, welding, NDT and solution of technical issues generally
  • Perform technical review, bibliographic research for preliminary study of a TD project
  • Execute work packages and CTRs by setting clear and realistic objectives to progress
  • Participate in testing campaigns and qualification programs as required
  • Prepare and perform engineering reviews to validate deliverables and conclusions of technology development projects with experts and/or other engineering parties, as applicable
  • Identify and protect Subsea 7’s existing and potential new intellectual property
  • Promote the Company’s specialized knowledge in subject matter internally and externally
  • Identify knowledge gaps that necessitate work prior to business introduction
  • Work in conjunction with Regions Business Development, Field Development group, Country Technology Managers and tender teams to initiate first use of new technologies
  • Support projects in their first adoption of new technology
  • Assist in establishment of “product / service teams” to widen commercial adoption and widespread usage.  
     

What experience would we like you to have?

Experience and Education

  • Materials Science Engineering Degree and/or Welding Engineering Degree
  • NDT expertise
  • ECA expertise
  • Significant previous experience in this field.
  • Relevant previous experience at an appropriate level in the subsea or offshore environment

 
Desired Knowledge

  • Metallurgy and associated materials selection processes
  • Pipeline manufacturing
  • Exotic materials would be beneficial
  • Offshore installation methods would be appreciated
  • Codes and standards typically API 5L, DNVGL-ST-F101, BS 4515, etc.
  • Finite Element Analysis tools (ex. Abaqus)
  • Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental best practices
  • Project Management, Planning and Performance Measurement
