Title: Geotechnical Deputy Discipline Manager

Overview
Subsea 7 has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Deputy Discipline Manager. Based within the Design & Analysis Department of Subsea 7’s Global Project Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, you will be challenged to manage a small team of geotechnical engineers and apply geotechnical engineering principles to the full range of deep-water geotechnical engineering topics faced by Subsea 7. This will include but not be limited to site investigation, geohazard risk assessment, foundation design and pipeline-soil interaction (PSI).
What will you be doing?
- To be the focal point for geotechnical scopes on tenders, FEED, and projects in Middle East and Asia Pacific.
- Deliver technical geotechnical design scopes in accordance with the requirements of the Business Management System. Includes participation in problem solving and checking adequacy of resources.
- Identify, mitigate and manage technical risk, and participate in project reviews as deemed required.
- Review and validate project technical documents, as required, Basis of designs, foundation design reports, site investigation Scopes of Work and prepare manhours for tenders and projects.
- Evaluate the quality of available site investigations and be capable of specifying and supervising complementary site investigations when needed
- Ensure project fitness-for-purpose, legislative compliance and adherence to project budget & schedule.
- Maintain past project knowledge, discipline standards and discipline technical skills
- Stay up to date with latest technologies, equipment, techniques and codes/standards within the discipline. Support technology developments / studies as required.
- Support other regions on technical topics to develop a collaborative model.
- Support the Discipline Manager in the provision of resources and resource planning for all discipline activities/services on studies, tenders and projects.
- Participate to the recruitment of personnel in accordance with the resource plan.
- Establish and maintain a positive and proactive working environment that encourages team working, a spirit of openness, honesty and integrity.
- Actively engage on technical and personal growth of all team members across offices
- Manage team members: participate to Compass process, training and development processes
- Ensure team members are commercially / contractually aware, and understand their HSE responsibilities within projects
What experience would we like you to have?
Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge
- Experience in foundation design to API, DNV and ISO standards.
- Experience in geotechnical design in deep water projects .
- Experience in the design of various foundation types including gravity based (skirted) foundations, driven and suction piles.
- Experience pipeline-soil interaction (PSI) analyses and supporting engineering disciplines for pipeline and umbilical installation analyses (initiation anchors), stability analyses, buckling and walking assessment.
- Technical and operational experience and knowledge within discipline with an extended capability of application
- Ability in resource planning to meet resourcing requirements
- Good communication skills – able to communicate ideas and results to various stakeholders.
- Extended capability and willingness to motivate, train and develop other
Desirable Experience, Skills and Knowledge
- Familiar with geotechnical engineering software like Plaxis 2D/3D, OPILE, Limit State Geo, GRLWEAP.
- Experience in pipeline routing studies and near-mudline geotechnical characterization studies would be beneficial.
- Experience in offshore trenching and rock dumping assessments, subsea trenching equipment and its performance.
- Experience in the specification and supervision of offshore site investigations.
- Master degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering
Person Specification
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering. A Master’s degree is favorable.
- Minimum 15 years’ relevant working experience
- Strong analytical as well as creative problem-solving skills - ability to suggest and develop new methods and ways of working.
- Understanding of clients’ needs and ability to suggest and apply “fit for purpose” solutions.
- Good communication skills in English, both verbally and written.
- The ability to manage a team.
- A willingness to travel on short business trips to Europe.
