Are you an engineering student interested in applying your academic knowledge in the real world? Subsea7, a global leader in the delivery of offshore energy, are offering a valuable summer internship opportunity based in Sutton, London within our Methods and Reeling Analysis teams.

 

This is paid summer programme is designed for students who have completed their 1st year at university specialising in Mechanical, Subsea, Offshore, Civil, Aeronautical, Naval Architecture or similar.

What will you be doing?

 

You will be integrated into one of the below departments as part of the “Pipeline Group” department. “Pipeline Group” is a service provider for the installation engineering of pipelines and associated structures, whether on projects or on tenders, to support the offshore operations but also the field development at early engineering phase.

 

Methods: Installation manuals and associated drawings are developed to ensure safe and efficient execution of the pipeline and associated structures offshore. You will support the team by working on business improvement initiatives and learn how engineering decisions affect safety, cost and offshore operations. You may also assist with feasibility studies and perform basic installation calculations to develop on predictable performance.

 

Reeling Analysis: Reeling of subsea pipelines is simulated using finite element software to ensure that the strain level is within the allowable limit to satisfy integrity checks when the pipeline is spooled on to the vessel reel and laid offshore. You are expected to review the existing reeling analysis methodology to become familiar with the work before commencing on the main objective of this internship. You will support the development of an approach to analyse reelability of the pipeline using different material models for the carbon steel. 

What experience would we like you to have?

 

  • A studying student who has completed their 1st year at university in an Engineering Degree in one of the specified disciplines
  • Motivation to work in the offshore energy sector and a willingness to learn and contribute to our teams
  • Available to work between June and September
