Overview
Subsea7 are looking for a Team Manager (Installation Methods Engineering) to join our Pipeline Group (PG) team responsible for delivering fit for purpose rigid pipeline installation methods and analysis to projects and/or tenders supported by the group with specific focus on safe and cost-effective installation operations. This role will be based in the Sutton, London office.
As a Team Manager (Method) you will oversee a team of method engineers, who could be based across several global locations and be working on a variety of reeling (Reel lay, S-lay & J-Lay) based projects worldwide. You will be responsible to the Engineering Manager (Method) for Pipeline Group and assist them in ensuring efficient day-to-day management of the installation engineering team and provide regular operational reports on general project engineering activities, technical subject matters, and resource management. You may also be part of, or asked to support, Subsea7’s COE for Rigid Pipeline on installation engineering subject matters.
What will you be doing?
- Responsible for the adequate capture and follow up of lessons learned and knowledge management within their subject matter
- When encountered, relevant engineering standards having potential adverse impact on the commerciality of engineering solutions should be reported to the relevant COE and Pipeline Group Management
- Promote safety culture and initiatives to the installation engineering team throughout the onshore and offshore delivery phases
- Recommend new work methods to improve efficiency of PG installation engineering services (ESSA)
- Manage and participate in technical reviews / audits within their field of expertise or location as and when required
- Give direct engineering guidance to PG installation engineers on specific subject matters
Rigid Pipeline Installation Engineering deliverables (projects & tenders)
- Ensure installation engineering is fit for purpose while meeting client specifications within their field of experience or location as and when required
- Support their manager to ensure each installation method engineering package is delivered as or better than the as-sold corresponding engineering hours budget
- by preparing, reviewing CTRs and histogram issued on tenders
- by performing regular project engineering plan reviews with Lead Engineers
- by following regularly Engineering S-Curves produced by relevant engineering and enforce right level of effective reporting is produced
- Ensure traceable interface process is in place with analysis team focusing on safe and cost-effective installation, client’s product integrity and budgeted engineering hours
- Manage and participate in reviews of methods statement and pipelay philosophy (in collaboration with production engineering) during tendering phases so as to ensure proposed methodologies are safe, cost / time effective, in line with client specification and risks & opportunities properly identified
- Share knowledge with Installation Analysis and Production Engineering teams
Resource management:
- Support the Engineering manager – Methods
- To manage the local team on the day to day
- to assign team members to projects, provide tender support with the necessary knowledge (dashboard)
- to participate in team individuals’ career development and aspirations (Compass plan, training plan, ASR…)
- to participate in recruitment for their own team.
- Might be the SPOC with local HR, or main interface with local engineering as required
Support to COE and Technology Development projects:
- Keep abreast with relevant industry standards and design codes
- Support to COE and Technology Development projects as requested by PG installation engineering manager

- Sound experience in rigid pipeline installation engineering methods
- Experience leading teams would be beneficial but ability to lead and function within a project team, providing regular and constructive feedback is essential
- Ability to prioritise own and others’ workload, manage time and change control accordingly and direct team members, where constraints will affect a project in terms of schedule, quality and or budget
- Ability to effectively solve problems, within a context of cost, contract, and risk management
- Sound communication skills, oral, written, and electronic
