Title:  Internship - Structures Design - Suction Anchor

Location:

Paris (Suresnes), FR

Job Closing Date:  17th Jan 2025

Votre mission

Your mission

Within the “Brazil & Global Projects Centre” (GPC, Subsea7’s center of excellence for executing large-scale projects worldwide), the “Structure Design” department is responsible for designing and sizing offshore infrastructure in the energy sector. This department primarily focuses on deepwater fields, from permanent structures to Fabrication and Installation Aids. Additionally, we have the capability to support projects related to renewable energies (fixed offshore or floating development). Our studies cover the entire cycle from the conceptual phase to execution, including installation and construction stages.

One of the most impressive underwater structures for anchoring floating structures (floating wind turbines, offloading buoys, Riser Towers, FPSOs, etc.) or supporting heavy structures is the Suction Anchor. This is a large cylindrical structure (up to over 1000m³) with an optimized skirt thickness, whose susceptibility to local buckling is questioned during sea transport due to accelerations related to vessel movements.

In the first phase, you will discover the suction anchors, their various types and functionalities, and their sizing process covering the phases of life, including transport methods. You will then focus on the transport issue, focusing on verifying the skirt – open or plain – against local buckling. The challenge will be to evaluate the resistance based on the Diameter OD to thickness t ratio analytically after an inventory of applicable Codes/Regulations, and then corroborate the results with a numerical approach (shell model, FEA using ANSYS).

Votre profil

Your profile

This internship is intended for a final-year engineering student with a mechanical background. A solid knowledge of structural calculations (steel construction) and material resistance is required. The ability to read plans (industrial drawing) is necessary for this internship. The intern must demonstrate good autonomy, be dynamic and rigorous, while also being creative in proposing innovative solutions susceptible to generate significant improvements.
