Long Description

The Principal Engineer will act as the Product Organisation’s representative for the Brazil region and will serve as the primary point of contact for all ICM product related activities, with particular focus on Mechanically Lined Pipe products.

This role requires applying technical expertise to support the region in the advancement and promotion of Subsea7’s Internal Corrosion Management products for client projects, new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Principal Engineer will also manage communications and actions associated with clients and therefore must demonstrate strong collaboration and communication skills, engaging effectively with stakeholders at all organisational levels.

The role requires solid understanding of pipe manufacturing processes, pipeline fabrication and installation methods combined with significant theoretical and practical expertise in Corrosion Resistant Alloy materials and associated pipeline solutions.

Key responsibilities include providing technical and commercial product support for early engagement activities and project strategies, building and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders, clients and suppliers, ensuring accurate technical communication, supporting product strategy definition, identifying and eliminating product cost of loss, providing support to Supply Chain Management, leading product development programmes and participating in Communities of Experts. The role will also gather and maintain regional market intelligence, regulatory updates and technological advancements relevant to ICM products.

Key Responsibilities

The Principal Engineer will -

  • Product Technical and Commercial Support: Provide technical product information (including product design and operational envelopes) and commercially appropriate product recommendations and guidance to key stakeholders in support of early engagement activities and project win strategies.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration and Communications: Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external (clients and suppliers) stakeholders.  

Provide clear and accurate product communications (verbally, written or via presentations), both technical and commercial, to internal audiences including senior management. 

Ensure accuracy and alignment of product information across key internal stakeholders and externally with clients and suppliers.

  • Provide Input to Product Strategy: Work with the Product Director and Product Engineering Manager to ensure product roadmaps and team activities remain accurate and relevant to the region.  In addition, the Principal Engineer will help maintain product trend analysis, SWOT analysis and competition analysis.
  • Eliminate Product Cost of Loss: Utilising information streams such as project feedback, Lessons Learned, product risk matrices, Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA), Supplier Performance Incidents (SPIs), identify and execute opportunities for product improvements and to eliminate product associated cost of loss for future projects.
  • Supply Chain Support: Provide technical support to Supply Chain Management regarding suppliers of ICM pipeline products, including market assessments, leading qualification activities and facilitating discussions around product schedule, quality, cost, etc.
  • Lead Product Development Programmes: Ensure new products are developed, and introduced to the market, in line with Company processes and product strategy.  In addition, lead product portfolio expansion projects such as new material selection and qualification.
  • Community of Experts (CoE) Participation: Participate and contribute in relevant CoE meetings. Provide product input and perspective for the purpose of the development of technical standards and specifications.
  • Product Related Market Intelligence: Gather regional product associated market information to support product team strategies. Maintain awareness of regional regulatory and client specification changes and product associated technological advancements.

Skills and Experience

Masters Degree qualified in relevant subject (ideally Materials - Metallurgy based).

  • Thorough understanding of pipe manufacturing processes, fabrication and installation methods.
  • Significant theoretical and practical understanding of CRA materials and associated pipeline solutions (in particular Mechanically Lined Pipe).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills at all levels of the business.  Ability to create and deliver reports and presentations.
  • Effective analytical skills, applies creative problem solving, will suggest and develop new methods and ways of working.
  • A collaborative worker who builds effective relationships across a highly diverse global business.
  • Self-motivated, takes ownership of responsibilities and works with minimum supervision, while also contributing to the wider team activities.
  • Pro-active planning and organising skills, able to identify and effectively prioritise workload and successfully meet multiple, competing deadlines.
  • Flexible to adapt to changing priorities within a fast-paced 24/7 global business.
